WHEREAS, the current speed limit on Arcade Street between Nevada Avenue and Larpenteur
Avenue is 40 miles per hour; and,
WHEREAS, due to the residential nature of Arcade Street in this area neighborhood livability is
compromised with excessive speeds; and,
WHEREAS, since 1995 there have been twelve personal injuries as a result of accidents between
Nevada and Larpenteur Avenues; and,
� WHEREAS, to heip reduce the severity of accidents, calm traffic and to maintain a safe
$ thoroughfare in this area, a reduction of the speed limit on this segment, between Nevada and
9 Larpenteur Avenues to 30 miles per hour is being requested; now, therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, that in accordance with Section 169.14 Subdivision 5 of the Minnesota Motor Vehicle
11 and Traffic Laws, the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby requests the Commissioner of the
� 2 Minnesota Department of Transportation to authorize the City of Saint Paul to revise the existing
� 3 speed zone to 30 miles per hour on Arcade Street between Nevada and Larpenteur Avenues.
