WHEREAS, the currerrt speed Iimit on SneNing Avenue between Taylor Avenue and Midway
Parkway is 45 miles per hour, and the speed limit beiween Mtidway Parkway and Hoyt Avenue is
35 mifes per hour; and
WHEREAS, due to the short distance of the 45 miles per hour speed zone vehicies continue this
speed both directions of travei into mixed residential and commercial areas; and
WHEREAS, due to the residentiai nature of Snelling Avenue south of Taylor Avenue, pedestrian
safety and neighborhood livability are compromised with excessive speeds; and,
g WHEREAS, enforcement efforts and traffic calming would be aided with speed limits that reflect a
a more consistent speed limit of 35 miles per hour on Sneiling between Taylor Avenue and Hoyt

1 � RESOLVED, that in accordance with Section 169.14, Subdivision 5, of the Minnesota Motor
t 2 Vehicfe and Traffic Laws, the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby requests the Gommissioner
i 3 of the Minnesota Department of Transportation to authorize the Gity of Saint Paul to revise the
4 existing speed zones to 35 miles per hour between Taylor Avenue and Hoyt Avenue.
