1 WHEREAS, the Public Housing Agency of the City of Saint Paul (PHA) has provided
2 funding through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Drug
3 Elimination Program to the Division of Parks and Recreation for the McDonough Recreation
4 Center Teen Council and Youth Activities program since 1993; and
5 WHEREAS, PHA has committed to provide $47,800 in 2001 for the McDonough
6 Recreation Center Teen Council and Youth Activities program by means of a contractual
� agreement; and
8 WHEREAS, PHA has made an additional $2,500 from the Urban Development Drug
9 Elimination Program available in 2001 to the Division of Parks and Recreation to provide
lo swim lesson scholarships for youth who are PHA residents and participate in activities at
11 McDonough Recreation Center by means of a separate agreement identified as Contract No.
12 0108Q which it has forwarded to the proper city officials for signature; now, therefore,
13 BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the proper city o�cials to enter
14 into PHA Contract No. 01080 to accept and expend the $2,500 in Housing and Urban
15 Development, Drug Elnnination Grant program funds on swim lesson scholarships for youth
16 who are PHA residents and participate in activities at McDonough Recreation Center.

Through the Drug Elimination Program funding it receives from the U.S. Department of Human Services, the Saint Paul
Public Housing Agency wishes to assist in providing swim lessons for yo�th who reside at the McDonough Homes by
providing grant funds to McDonough Recreation Center for use in acquiring swim lesson scholarships to be used during
the spring of 2001.
ALVANTAGES IF APPROVED:
Approximately 50 youth from the McDonough Homes will be given the opportunity to participate in Red Cross swim
lessons during the spring of 2001. ��� �
