An Administrative Resolution revising the Class
Specification far- the title of Fire Fighter.
WHEREAS, it is app�opriate and desirable to change the Class
Specification for the title of Fire Fighter; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Civil Se�vice Rules be amended by striking
from Section 49 the Class Specification £�]�"`the title of Fire Fighter, and by
substituting in lie� thereof, the atta�hed Class Specification for the title of
Fire Fighter.

FIRE FIGHTEk
Duties and responsibilities:
Under supervision, to perform �vork as ordered by a superior, in the pro-
tection of life and property fxom fire, and the extinguishing af fires;
and to perform related work as assigned.
Examples of work performed:
To respond to fires with a company, to connect up and handle hose lines
and nozzles, to place or hoist ladders, to turn water on or off, to
use chemical extinguishers, axes, baxs, or hooks as directed, and to
raise or lower hose to or from upper and lower levels.
To ventilate burning buildi�gs by apening or breaking doars or windows
or cutting holes through walls or floors, and to £orce entry by breaking
glass, springing or forcing doors, windows or gates, cutting Zocks, bars,
or wire gra�ing, or breaking walls.
To lubricate, clean and polish fire fighting equipment.
To assist in the maintenanee and care of qt�arters.
To act as a tiller man on a hook and ladder truck.
To drive a Fire Department ambulance when assigned.
To act as a member of a Fire Department ambulance crew and to attend si,ck
and injured persons when assigned.
To aet in emergencies as Fire Eauipment Operator or Fire Captain o£ a
company when assigned.
To act as administrative assistant to the Fire Chief.
To act as chauffeur for a chief officer.
To act as aide to a chief officer by transmitting his orders to company
commanders or other subordinates at fires, by transmitting messages by
radio, telephone or fire box, and by being responsible for the proper
care of the equipment Belonging to a chief officer.
A4inimum qualifications:
High school graduation. Must be at least 18 years of age. The age limit
of this position will be governed by applicable State Law.

The Finance Committee recommends approval of the following items:
1. ResoTution revising the specifications for the title of Firefighter:
� 2. Resolution amending t�he Civil Service Rules by striking the title
Director of Ltbraries from Grade 33 and inserting in Grade 31 the
title Library Administrator and by amending Section 49 of the rules
by inserting the class specifications for the title Library Admin-
istrator.
3, The transfer of funds in amount of $250,000 - $75,000 from CD Block
Grant Year III monies, $35,000 from Downtown People Mover and $140,000
from Como Park Conservatory Structural Repair Fund. for completing
the North End Multi-Service Center.
