WHEREAS, it is appropriate and desirable to establish a new class title of Recreation Coordinator-Special Programs and Class Specification for , said title; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended by adding to Section 6, in Grade 7 under the heading "Professional-Administrative." Group, the title Recreation Coordinatox-Special Programs; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further � amended by inserting in Section 49, in proper alphabetical order, the attached Class Specification for the new title of RECREATION COORDINATOR-SPECIAL PROGRAMS. Supervision Received: i�Vorks under the directi�n of a unit or division head. Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a unit, technical and administrative supervision over technical and clerical ernployees and volunteers. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORRIED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Plans, organizes, and supervises a diversified program of leisure, recrea- tional and instructional activities for the mentally and physically handicapped individuals and senior citizens. Assists in the preparation of t}le Special Programming budget. Develops fund raising ac�ivities i.ncluding the writing of state and federal gxants. - Edits monthly publiaations and all progra.m correspondence for both the Adaptive and Senior Citizen programs. Recruits and trains volunteers and interns from area schools, and conductis in-5ervice training workshops for staff and related commur_ity agencies and facilities, as tvell as other City departments. Supervises staff, interns and volunteers of Special Programming. Cooperates with state and local agencies involved with Special Programming. Plans and develops new recxeational, leisure, and instructional programs for the Adaptive and Senior Frograms. Prepares and supervises the preparation of publicity releases to pxomote activities and programs. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - Working knowledge of consumer problems of the handicapped and senior citizens. {Vorking knowledge of the capabilities and po�entials of people with specific disabi2ities. Considerable knowledge of community agencies, facilities, programs, and advocacy groups dealing with the needs of the handicapped and senior citizens in St. Paul. tit�arking knowledge o£ pl�ysical and emotional problems concerning senior citizens. Some knowledge of first aid supplies and proceduxes. Considerable ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public. Considerable ability to plan, organize and delegate work and the ability to work effeetively with staff. I�1INI�itJ;�S QUALIFICATIONS College graduation in recreation, physical education or a related field and two years' experience working directly with mentally or physically handicapped persons.
