RESOLVED, that the rate of pay far the classification of EVENTS COORDINATOR be
established at the rate set forth in Grade 10 of the Saint Paul Supervisors Organiziation (SPSO) Salary
Schedule in the Salary Plan and Rates of Compensation; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that this resolution shall take effect and be in force on the first pay
period following the passage and approval, and publication of this resolution.

INTCIATING PROBLEM, ISSUE, OPPORTUNI'PY (Who, What, When, Where, Why):
The Division of Parks and Recreation requested that the Human Resources Office shxdy a position that is
performing duties in coardinating and supervising event planning activities at the Como Conservatory. The Office
of Human Resources studied the position and determined thai existing classifications do not adequately describe
the posi6on studied. Therefore, the Events Coordinator classificarion was created and approval of the rate of pay is
being sought.
ADVANTAGES IF APPROVED:
The City will establish equitable compensation for the newly created Events Coordinator classification based on a
classification and compensation study conducted by Huuian Resources staff.

Effective:
Performs professional and supervisory work in promoting, coordinating and managing special events
sponsored by a unit, division, or department.
Supervision Received:
Works under the moderate supervision of a division manager or department director.

Exercises within a unit, division, or department, general supervision d'uectly over event assistant staff and
others assigned.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all the duties performed by all positions in this class.
Coordinates all event details to include, but not limited to, event planning, communicating with client,
contract completion by client, supervision of event, staffing of event, and event set-up.
Interviews and hires employees.
Plans, assigns, schedules, supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of employees.
Conducts employee performance appraisals, counsels employees about disciplinary problems, and provides
employee development and training.
Promotes and develops the site as a premiere location for potential clients to use for their events. Develops
a business-mazketing plan. Analyzes the mazket for new special event trends. Conducts cost analysis and
evaluates profitability.
Develops and maintains relationships with organizations who can assist in promoting the site such as the
Convention and Visitors Bureau and the business community.
Establishes and maintains effective liaisons with staff, clients, media contacts, vendors, volunteers and
support personnel.
Provides qualiTy customer service.
Responsible for collecting event fees. Handles cash, check and credit cazd payments on a daily basis.
Establishes, develops and monitors rates, policies, procedures and the corresponding printed literature
regazding special events and rentals.
Assesses the need for supplies.

food and beverage serving and server policies.

I{nowledge of customer service pracrices in dealing with the public, clients, businesses, media, etc.
Knowledge of Twin City services and agencies whose purpose is to suppoR tourism historical features such
as the Como Conservatory.
Knowledge of job related policies, procedures, union contracts, and laws.
Working skill at promoting and utilizing the Como Campus facilities and gardens as azeas other than their
intended purpose to accommodate events such as weddings and receptions, gatherings serving food (buffet
style and fiill service) and events accommodating musicians, speakers, etc.
Working skill at coordinating event planning details, timing,.length, content, etc. with other departments,
events and staff.
Skill at effectively presenting the event site as an elegant ahnosphere than cannot be duplicated and
exceptional value for the rental dollaz.
