WHEREAS , Pope Paul VI gave positive leadership
to billions` of Catholics worldwide , and
WHEREAS , many citizens of St. Paul looked to Pope
Paul as their spiritual leader :, and
WHEREAS, Pope Paul showed us that people can let
their conscience be their guide in decision making , and
WHEREAS , the spiritual leader was a constant
reminder that the poor, sick and suffering are equal in
the eyes of God , and
WHEREA`S Pope Paul preached that a life of internal
and not external wealth is important, and lived such a life ,
and "
WHEREAS , the pontiff opened the door and communicated
with all peoples of this earth, even those who at times opposed
the teaching of his church, now therefore ,
BE IT RESOLVED, that Sunday, August 13th , 1978,
be an official day or mourning in commemoration of the death
of Pope Paul VI .
