WHEREAS, the Charter Commission of the City of Saint Paul has held hearings
and taken statements and testimony on a proposal to establish a four-year term
for the office of Mayor; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Comnission, based on the testimony and statements and
its own deliberations, has recorr�nnended that the Charter be amended to increase the
term of office for mayor from two years to four years; and
WHEREAS, the Charter Corr�nission has recomnended that the change be submitted
to the electorate at the general election to be held on November 7, 1978, in
accordance with law, but that said change should not affect the term of the incumbent
mayor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the proposed charter amendment be submittec� to the electorate
of the City of Saint Paul at the general election to be held NOvember 7, 1978; and
be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to take the necessary
- -steps for publication of the proposed amendment as may be required by law; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that pursuant to law the Council hereby fixes the form of
the question to be submitted to the electorate at the general election November 7,
1978, relative to this amendment to read as follows:
"Shall Section 2.02 of the Charter of the City of
Saint Paul be amended to increase the term of office for
mayor from two years to four years (without changing the
current term of the present mayor)?"
