RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 6
under the heading "Professional-Administrative" Group by inserting the
23
title of Superintendent of Maintenance--Parks and Re creation in Grade �r;
and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 49 by inserting, in proper alphabetical order, the
attached class specification for Superintendent of Maintenance--Parks
and Recreation.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs managerial work involving the long
range planning, assigning and organizing of the division's foxestry
section, and the maintenance and security of the divisions grounds,
buildings, vehicles and equipment; performs administrative duties; and
performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
a division head.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a division general technical
supervision over maintenance, technical and clerical workers.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all the duties performed by all positions
in this class.
Directs the activities of the forestry section.
Directs all ground maintenance including golf courses, parks, playgrounds,
and boulevards.
Directs the Park Shop, equipment maintenance and all building maintenance.
Directs the grounds and building security operations.
Prepares operating reports and advises of inethods to improve maintenance
programs.
Gives direction to the maintenance staff by defining standards and principles
of operation and by establishing program objectives.
Prepares and presents the annu�l budget for all maintenance of the division,
including support of proposed staffing pattern and other expenditures.
Conducts staff ineetings, instructs in Division policies and procedures,
and directs the supervisory staff in this activity.
Represents the Division of Parks and Recxeation in various civic activities
where public presentation is necessary.
Prepares reports, manuals, and other documents.
Studies and makes recommendations.
Confers with other community officials in the intexest of cooperative, wide
objectives of park management or forestry and reforestation programs.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AIv'D ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of current management and supervisory principles and
procedures.
Thorough knowledge of the theory and techniques related to planning and
directing forestry and maintenance programs.
Considerable ability to prepare reports and to evaluate programs.
Considerable ability to recruit, supervise, train and evaluate employees.
Considerable engagements and the preparation and distribution of news
releases.
Considerable ability to deal effectively with projects participants, civic
and private organizations and the general public.

College graduation and eight years' experience in professional or managerial

The Cor�mittee, at its meeting of December 4, 1978, took the following action:
Recommended approval of the resolution amending Civi1 Service Rules by in�serting
in Section 6 under the heading Subprofessional Group the title Housing Technician III
in Grade 38 and by inserting the specifications for the title in Section 49 of the
Civil Service Rules.
Recommended approval �of the Resolution establishing title and specifications for
Superintendent �of Maintenance-Parks and Recreation in Grade 23, rather than in
Grade 25.
