1 WHEREAS, Established in 1887, the Macalester football team has a long tradifion in Minnesota, particularly against
2 Hamline University which constitutes the oldest rivairy in Minnesota Collegiate football with over 100 games
3 played;and
4 WI�REAS, Macalester College is proudly ranked acadexnically among the top 26 schools in the nafion, of wlvch
5 99% have football programs which add to the well-rounded excellence of these schools; and
6 WHEREAS, the Macalester football program has consistently produced future leaders, such as Wisconsin Governor
7 Scott McCallum who was just inducted into the Macalester Hall of Fame; and
8 WHEREAS, the Macalester football program brings a diversity of students, as well as adding to the diversity of non-
9 academic opportunities, to the Macalester campus that would be starkly absent without this program; now therefore
10 be it
11 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes the importance of this 114-year tradition; and be it finally
12 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council officially requests Macalester College to retain their football program
13 for many years to come .
