SL'BJECT : Request waiver of quarterly fees payable under Vacant Building
Registration Ordinance , because of financial hardship and because of
appellant' s intent to resume living in home as soon as health permits .

PROCEEDINGS: Chairman Wozniak explained that in lieu of a persanal
appearance by the appellant, she was permitted to submit a letter giving �
the reasons for her appeal. Mrs . Lindgren was 84 years o1d, had lived
in the house since 1921 , but had temporarily gone to live with her
daughter because of a health problem. Because of vandalism, the windows
had been boarded up , which automatically classified the property as vacant
under the terms of the city ordi,nance and consequently required registxa-
tion and payment of quarterly fees of $45. Mrs . Lindgren had had the
water system drained and disconnected the furnace for the period of her
� absence , but had retained telephone and electrical service . Her income
came mainly from Social Security an d she said she could not afford to
pay registration fees .
Mr. Reiter said this was obviously a case that would fall outside the
intent of the ordinance.
Mr. Strohkirch stated that his department had no abjection to a waiver
of the fees .
BOARD ACTION: Mr. Glassman moved that fees due under the Vacant Build�
ing Registration Ordinance be waived and the filing fee refunded.
Mr. Reiter seconded. MOTION CARRIED AND SO ORDERED.
