NOTES OF THE SPECIAL PROPERTY CODE ENFORCEMENT MEETING
Wednesday, October 24, 2001
Room 330 Courthouse
Gerry Strathman, Legislative Hearing Officer
STAFF PRESENT: Jack Reazdon, Code Enforcement
The meeting was called to order at 2:40 a.m.
1976 Hilding Avenue
Gerry Strathman stated this meeting is being held to heaz an appeal regarding an order to conect
violations at 1976 Hilding Avenue.
Joseph Weah, owner, appeared and stated he is appealing for more tnne. Last week, an inspector
said he received an anonymous call about rires. Mr. Weah had tires in the back of his yard,
which he was told to move right away. He knew he was in violation, and he put them in the
warehouse immediately. The inspector also indicated that the furnace was not working. Mr.
Weah did not know that was public information. He told the inspector he needed time because
he had already called to have it repaired. He did not know that it was against the law to haue a
damaged fiunace in his house if a space heater is used. This is a rush period for hearing
companies, stated Mr. Weah. The earliest appointment he could get is November 17; however,
one company came by today and repaired the fiirna.ce. It is a moot situation now.
Mr. Strathxnan asked has the yard been cleaned up. Mr. Weah responded yes.
Mr. Strathman asked about the cars. Mr. Weah responded he has two salvage cars in his
driveway. One was covered. Mr. Weah did not change the cars into his name. He found out that
he could get a salvage sticker pending his repairs. He was not aware that it was against City law
to have a covered car in a driveway.
Is the fiunace the basis for condemnation, asked Mr. Strathman. Jack Reardon responded yes.
Gerty Strathman denied the appeal on the Correcfion Notice dated October 16, 2001. If the
fumace is repaired, there is no action for the City to take. Once it is verified that the furnace is
operable, the condemnation will be lifted. Mr. Reardon added he will lift the condemnation
today.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:46 p.m.
