All roadway improvements shall be referred to as Public Works Project No. P-0732C and ornamental lighting shall be referred to as Public Works Project. No. V-0649C. . Streets to be improved include the foilowing: E. MAGOLIA AVENUE from Arcade St. to Forest St. MENDOTFI STREET from E. Magnolia Ave. to E. Jessamine Ave. INITIATING ACTION: Streets to 6e improved under the Residential Street Paving Program were selected by citizen input at the local community level . Public Works establish selection criteria and concurs that improvements are needed on the roadways selected. The streets are among those which were p.reviously selected for improvement under Year 1 of the Resid;ential Street Pavina Program and the Orders for the street work and lighting were passed by the Council as 77-P-0741 COOK STREET AREA and 77-V-0639 LIGHTtNG (C,F. #269297,. approved June 30, 1977) . The improvement of Magnotia - Arcade to Forest., and Mendota from Magnolia to E. Jessamine were deleted from the construction because of lack of funds. These streets were again selected by the District 5 Citizens Committee and were subsequently recommended by the C. I .6. Committee. EXISTING CONDITIONS. All streets contained in this proposal have an oiled roadway surface. Driving surfaces are rough. and uneven. Existing st"reet widths vary because of lack of curbing, but in general , are typically 30 to 36 feet. All streets generally _ carry iocal access traffic only, and have low traffic counts. Al1 streets have existing sidewalk. Some walk is tile or in poor condition due to tree heaves. Some driveways are narrow and- in poor condition. Boulevards are in need of regrading and sod. Storm sewr construction has been completed in this area. Street . lighting is old and insufficient. . — . -2- ' PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS: A new bituminous roadway with concrete curb and gutter is proposed. Roadway widths will be consistent with other recently constructed residential streets, i.e. , 32 feet curb to curb. All old tile sidewalk will be reconstructed, as well as any other walk which is broken or tree heaved. All driveways will be reconstructed where'existing drives exist, or where property owners request. All existing house outwalks witl be reconstructed. Boulevards .wilt be regraded and sodded from curb to sidewalks, and an energy efficient sodium vapor lighting system will be installed. POSITIVE BENEFITS: Complete improvement of the public right-of-way witl greatly enhance and add to the quality and character ..of the nelghborhood. ADVERSE EFFECTS: Minor distuption to the area during construction is seen as a temporary adverse effect. Homes in the construction area are serviced by a public alley which should help to minimize the inconvenience. SPECIRL CONSIDERATIONS: Ornamental lighting and new tree planting will not be done with the roadway con- struction. Separate contracts will be awarded for these items in an attempt to obtain better unit costs. Construction of all work will be properly coordinated however. , This p roject has been approved through the Capitel lmprovement Budget process. TIME SCHEDULE: , Construction should commence in June of 1979. COST ESTIMATE: .
