An Administrative Re solution changing the title
and class specification for Chief of Extension
Services to Extension Services Supervisor in
the Civil Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 6
thereof, by striking out the title of Chief of Extension Services from
Grade 23 under the heading "Professional-Administrative" Group, and
by substituting in lieu thereof the title of Extension Services Supervisor
in Grade 20 of the "Professional-Administrative" Group; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended by striking from Section 49 the c].ass specification for the title
of Chief of Extension Services and substituting in lieu thereof, in proper
alphabetical order, the attached class specification for the title of
Extension Services Supervisor.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs highly responsible professional and
supervisory work in planning and directing the day-to-day operation of
the library system's Extension units; and performs related duties as
required. �
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
the Library Servfces Manager or Division head.
" Supervision Exercised: Exercises general supervision directly and through
subordinate supervisors over all Extension personnel.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Directs the day-to-day operation of all branch libraries, bookmobiles, the
Community Relations Office, Video Communication Center and related
Extension agencies.
Maintains contact directly or through Extension agency supervisors with
community organizations to ascertain community needs, to increase their
awareness of Library services and to encourage cooperative efforts.
Formulates with Extension agency supervisors programs and services to meet
community needs.
E�aluates equipment, staff, collection and building needs of Extension
agencies and recommends changes and improvements.
Assists in developing budget to meet materials, staff and equipment needs.
Qversees Extension collection development and works with Acquisitione
Librarian and Central supervisors to insure attainment of standards.
Directs implementation of Library policies and procedures within Extension
agencies.
Provides direction to and guidance of Extension supervisors while evaluating
their performanc�.
Assists in selection and assignment of library personnel.
Represents Extension agencies and coordinates their activities with other
Library agencies.
Plans aad coordinates staff in-service training and continuing education
for all librarq employees.
KNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of library principles, practices and trend�.
Considerabl.e knowledge of principles of management and supervisory techniques.
Working knowledge of public relations techniques.
Considerable skill in communicating with others orally and in writing.
Considerable ability to evaluate community needs and develop methods of
providing service.
Considerable ability to plan, organize and set objectives and priorities.
MINLMLTM QUALIFICATIONS
College graduation with a major in Library Science and 7 years'professional
library experience, at least two yea�'s of which must have been in a branch
Iibrary and at least two years of which must have been at the Librarian

2. . Resolution establishing titles of and specifications for Landscape Architect I, II
. and III, in Grades 9, 13 and 18 respectiuely of the Professiana7-Administrative
Group and abolish these titles in Grades 11 , 15 and 20, except as to present
incumbents.
3. Resolution creating title and specification for Office Supervisor-Code Enforcement
in Grade 28 of the Clerical Occupat�onal Group and abolishing title and specifica-
tions for Extension Services Supervisor in Grade 27.
4. Resolution replacing title and specifications for Chief of Extension Services in
. Grade 23 of the Professional-Administrative Group with the title and snecifications

, CHIEF OF EXTENSION SERVICES
Duties and responsibilities:
Under direction, to be responsible for the professional library
services in extension agencies of the library system; and to
perform related work as assigned.
Examples of work performed:
To be responsible fox the professional library work in the branch
libraries and library stations, and the hospital and bookmobile
services.
To assist the Director of Libraries in the preparation and ad-
ministration of the budget, the survey of future needs, and
plans for expansion and improvement, as pertains to library
services away from the rnain library.
To discuss plans, programs, objectives, anc� procedures with
division heads and branch librarians and to critically review
their work.
To be responsible for the requisitioning, training anc� scheduling
of personnel.
To select and recommend for ordering book stock recommended
by subordinates.
To evaluate facilities and operations, and to make recommend-
atione for improvements.
To conduct divisional sta.ff ineetings.
To prepare periodic reports regarding activities and progress.
Minimum qualifications:
College graduation, including a major in Library Science and
eight years' professional library experience, at least two
years of which must have been as a Librarian III or IV, or
equivalent. (No substitution for education. )
