Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of a division head. Supervision Fxercised: Exercises within the unit general supervision over lower level professional and technical employees. _ TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Directs and participates in the examination of plans and specification for conformance with structural, mechanical and electrical building codes aad safety factors. Directs the work of architects, engineers, architectural designers, draf ts- man and technicians in the preparation of building designs, plans, specifications and cost estimates for City buildings and facilities. � Directs the work of inspection staff involved in construction andccontraCt payment approval of City buildings and facilities. Meets with architects, engiaeers, owners and contractora to discuss and resolve building problems. Admiaisters City contracts with private architectural firras; arranges terms, monitors construction, approves work and suthorizes payment. Makes complex engiaeering calculations in determining*strt►ctuia��:�capar3t�.es. Inspects buildinge for structural soundness; orders repairs or takes emergency actions when buildings are determined to be hazardous. Provides professional engineering services or advice to other City Departments. Prepares reports of structural investigations. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of structural, mechanical or architectural engineer3.ng. Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques and procedures of structural design and building construction. Corisiderable ability to coordinate and supervise the preparations of plans, designs, specifications and cost estimates for building construction and renovation projects. � Considerable ability to deal effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and other governmental units. Considerable ability to plan, organize and delegate work. Considerable ability to coaimunicate effectively both orally and in wxiting. MINIrNM QUALIFICATIONS College graduation in civil, mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering and six years' civil, mechanical, electrical or architectural engineering experience, two years of which must have been as a Civil Engineer III, Structural Engineer III or eq$ivalent in plan examination or structural engineering work. Must be registered as a pro€essional engineer in the State of Minnesota.
