An Administrative Resolution establishing the
title and class specification for Water Department
Technician IV in the Civil Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 6
under the heading "Professional-Administrative" Group by inserting the
title of Water Department Technician IV in Grade 15; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 49 by inserting, in proper alphabetical order, the
attached class specification for Water Department Technician IV.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible supervisory and skilled
engineering work in the investigation, design, inspection, operation or
maintenance of water works; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general technical and admini.strative
supervision of a division or department head.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a unit, division or department,
general technical and administrative supervision over clerical and
technical engineering workers.
TYPICAL DUTTES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Supervises the maintenance of alI engineering maps and records.
Supervises the �nspection and testing of water distribution system
construction.
Supervises the preparation of detailed plans and specifications for complex
water construction pro�ects.
Supervises and scfiedules the Water iltility Survey crew. �
Supervises and coordinates the processing of petitions for new and replace-
ment water mains, and applications for water service connections and
automatic f ire supplies.
Supervises the review of design plans and specifications of other agencies
for compliance with Water Utility standards.
Provides technical assistance to Water Utility construction crews.
Coordinates Water Utility construetion projects with other agencies.
KNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
Considerable knowledge of construction materials, methods and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of contract specifications, rules and regulations.
Considerable ability to plan, organize and delegate work.
Considerable ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least 50 credit hours acceptable toward the basic engineering certificate
such as given by the University of Minr.esota (certain courses may be
substituted for those required for the basic engineering certificate;
a list of such substitute courses is maintained in the PErsonnel Office);
and two years� experience as a Water Department Technic;an III, or
equivalent. (No snbstitution for education.)

The Finance Committee at its meeting of January 29, 1979 recommended approval of the =

_ 1 . Resolution establishing title and class specifications for Supervisor of-Building
Design and Plan REview in Grade 22 of the Professional-Administrative Group.

2. Resolution establishing titles of and specifications for Landscape Architect I, II
. and III, in Grades 9, 13 and 18 respectively of the Professional-Administrative
Group and abolish these titles in Grades 11 , 15 and 20, except as to present
incumbents.
3. Resolution creating title and specification for Office Supervisor-Code Enforcement
in Grade 28 of the Clerical Occupational Group and abolishing title and specifica-
. tions for Extension Services Supervisor in Grade 27.
4.: Resolution replacing title and speci�fications for Chief of Extension Services in
Grade 23 of the �Professional-Administrative Group with the titie and soecifications
