Referred To Committee: Date Out of Committee By Date WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota, and in particular the City of Saint Paul, has a large population of Native American individuals; and WHEREAS, this group represents one of the largest racial minorities in the City of Saint Paul; and WHEREAS, the Native American, Community continues to encounter problems in obtaining adequate representation in city government, employment, boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, this lack of representation has limited the socio-economic opportunities of this group; and WHE REAS, the needs of the Native American community are unique and existing, and future social service programs would benefit from the input and recommendations of the Native American Community; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council recognize that the need and aspirations of the Native American Community could be more adequately addressed; Now, Therefore, be it RESOLVED, that a 10-member Advisory Committee on Native American Affairs be created which will: 1. Advise the Mayor and City Council on issues and concerns of the Native American Community; 2. Serve as a forum for the Native American community and as a liaison between the community and city government; 4. Assist in the performance of studies designed to suggest solutions to problems in such areas as education, employment training, human rights, health, housing, social welfare, mental health services, criminal justice, and economic development; And be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the establishment of the committee, the appointment to committee membership, committee membership, meetings, records, and committee costs shall be governed by City Council Resolution approved April 8, 1976 (Council File No. 266996) or as same may be from time to time amended.
