An Administrative Resolution changing the title
and class specification for General Library Assistant
to Library Assistant II in the Civi.l Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civi.l 5ervice Rules be amended in Section 3.L
(Technical Group) by placing a star ('�) before the title of General Library
Assistant in Grade 22, and by adding at the bottom of the page the following
statement:
"This title is abolished except as to present incumbents. ";
and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended in
Section 3. L (Technical Group) by inserting the tit].e of Library Assistant II
in Grade 24; and be it �
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Civil-�ervice Rules be further amended
in Section 32 by striking out the class specification for General Library
Assistant and by substituting in lieu thereof, in proper alphabetical order,
the attached class specification for Library Assistant II.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs intermediate level technical ].ibrary
work in providing assistance, information and materials loan services to
library patrons; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of an agency
supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: None.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not incl.ude a11 duties performed by all positions
in this class.
Assists patrons in locating books and other library materials and provides
instruction in the use of the card catalog.
Provides routine information and .reference services including referral to
� outside resources when necessary. �
Plans and executes promotional activities and library programs.
Assists in developing booklists and in writing promotional articles.
Assists in routine collection development and maintenance.
Charges library materials in and out; collects and accounts for overdue
fines; records statistics, handles library card applications and book
and material reservations.
Operates and maintains a variety of library equipment such as check-out
machines, audio-visual equipment and .repairs library materials.
KNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working ability to exercise courtesy, tact and discretion in all contacts.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Working skill in library tasks such as information and .reference services, ,
knowledge of collection and use of catalog.
Working knowledge of library materials, policies, procedures, services
and facilities and proficiency in their applications.
The ability to move about library building and lift, carry, stand, stoop,
and .bend.
Some knowledge of the .general information required to assist a clientele
with varied cultural intellectual and technical interests and informational
needs.
MINIMITM QUALIFICATIONS
Two .years of college and two .years'. experience as a Library Assistant I
or equivalent. (Approved qualifying experience may be substituted for
education; or, additional approved education or special training may be
substituted for up to one-half of the experience requirement.}
