An Administrative Resolution changing the title and
class specification for Library Technician II (Display),
Library Technician II (Fine Arts), and Library
Technician II (General) to Library Specialist II in the
Civi1 Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 3. J
(Professional-Administrative Non-Supervisors Group) by striking out the
titles of Library Technician II (Display), Library Technician II (Fine Arts),
and Library Technician II (General) from Grade 7, and by substituting in
lieu thereof the title of Library Specialist II; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended by striking from Section 32 the class specification for Library
Technician II (General), (Display), and (Fine Arts), and by substituting in
lieu thereof, in proper alphabetical order, the attached class specification
for the title of Library Specialist II.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible library work providing
assistance, information and materials loan services to library patrons;
may supervise Bookmobile, Video operations or Young Adult Section; acts
as an assistant supervisor in a branch library; and performs related
duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of agency ,
supervisor or unit head.
Supervision Exercised: Exercise� close supervision over clerical and
technical employees; may assume duties of an agency supervisor in
his/her absence.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions
in this class.
Supervises Bookmobile, Video operations, Young Adult .Section or comparable
component.
Assists patrons in locating books and other library materials and provides
instruction in the use of the card catalog.
Provides difficult information and .reference services.
Compiles booklists and writes promotional articles.
Plans and executes promotional activities and library programs.
Assists in routine collection development and maintenance.
Charges library materials in and out; collects and accounts for overdue
fines; .records statistics, handles library card applications and book
and material .reservations.
Assists in the withdrawal of library materials and training of new personnel.
Operates. and maintains a variety of library equipment.
May participate in planning and executing surveys and studies.
Acts as an assistant supervisor in a branch library.

Working ability to deal with complex information services.
Working ability to supervise, make decisions and initiate action.

College graduation including sixteen credits in library science courses
pertaining to library principles, library practices or library management

(Approved qualifying experience may be substituted for education except
that there will be no substitution for library science credits. Additional
approved education or special training may be substituted for up to one-
half of the experience requirement.)
