J (Professional-Administrative Non-Supervisors Group) by striki.ng out the titles of Library Technician I (Display), Library Technician I (Fine Arts), and Library Technician I (General) from Grade 3, and by substituting in lieu thereof the title of Library Specialist I; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended by striking from Section 32 the class specification for Library Technician I (Display), (General), and (Fine Arts), and by substituting in lieu thereof, in proper alphabetical order, the attached class specification for the title of Library Specialist I. LISRARY SPECIALIST I �• ���� DESCRIPTION OF WORK General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible library work providing assistance, information and materials loan services to library patrons; and performs related duties as required. Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of an agency supervisor. Suvervision Exercised: May exercise immediate supervision over clerical and technical employees; may assume duties of an agency supervisor in his/her absence. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties .performed by all positions in this class. Assists patrons in locating books and other library materials and provides instruction in the use of the card catalog. Provides complex information and .reference services, including referral, in Central subject departments or large branch libraries. Compiles booklists and writes promotional articles. Plans and executes promotional activities and library programs. Assists in routine collection development and maintenance. Charges library materials in and out; collects and accounts for overdue fines; records statistics, handles library card applications and book and material reservations. Assists in the withdrawal of library ma.terials and training of new.personnel. May participate in planning and executing surveys and studies. KNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The ability to deal with complex information .services. The ability to plan and organize work. Some ability to make .decisions and initiate action. Working knowledge of library policies and procedures. Working ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS College graduation including eight credits in librarq science courses pertaining to library principles, library practices or library management; or,two .qears' exper3ence as a Library Assistant II or equivalent and eight credits in library science courses .pertaining to library prin- cipals, library practices or library management; or, four years' experience as a Library Assistant I or equivalent and eight credits in library science courses pertaining to library principles, library practices or library management.
