An Administrative Re solution changing the title
and class specification for Library Assistant to
Library Assistant I in the Civil 5ervice Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 3.L
(Technical Group) by striking out the title of Library Assistant from Grade
20 and by substituting in lieiz thereof the title of Library Assistant I; and
be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended by striking from Section 32 the class specification for the title
of Library Assistant and substituting in lieu thereof the attached class
specification for the title of Library Assistant I.

LIBRARY ASSISTANT I
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Under supervision, to be trained in and to
perform entry level technical library work providi�g assistance, infor-
mation and materials loan services to library patrons; and performs
related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the close supervision of an agency
supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: None.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples ma.y not include all duties performed by all positions
in this class.
Assists patrons in locating books and other library materials, and provides
instruction in the use of the card catalog.
Provides routine information and reference services.
Assists with promotional activities and library programs.
Charges library materials in and out; collects and accounts for overdue
fines; records �tatistics, handles library card applications and book
and materials reservations.
Operates and maintains a variety of library equipment such as check-out .
machines, audio-visual equipment and repairs library materials.
RNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
TTie ability to exercise courtesy, tact and discretion in all contacts.
Tfie ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
The ability to _learn and participate in library tasks such as information
and .reference.services, knowledge of collection and use of catalog.
The ability to move about library building and lift, carry, stand, stoop
