WFIEREAS, There exists a substantial demand for long and short term parking in
the immediate and surrounding area of down.town St. Paul; a,n.d
WI�REA,S, In actively seeking solutions to meet this demand, the City has been
attemptirig to establish a fringe parking and shuttle system; and
WHEREAS, Streets and other parkin.g areas aroun.d Harriet and Navy Islands are
being considered as part of the overall fringe parkin.g an.d shuttle system; and
WHEFiEA�S, Harriet and Navy Islands� participation in the parking system includes
the establishment of parking meter parking in addition to the establishment of one
or more public parking lots; and
WHEREAS, In order to implement the parking meter parking aspect of this
system this calendar year, it is necessary that the City install concrete bases
with pipes to accommodate the parking meter posts which will be assembled if the
Coun.cil decides to install parking meters on Harriet and Navy Islands; an.d
WI�REA�S, It has been projected that the cost of such installation will be
approxi.mately $�F,500.00.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the proper City officials are hereby author-
ized a.n.d directed to commence those procedures necessary to have installed the park-
ing meter bases on Harriet and Navy Islands in an amount determin.ed acceptable by the
Director of Public Works and for a cost of approximately $�+,500.00.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the $�+,500.00 to be used to construct the concrete
bases and pipes shall be taken from the Parking Fun.d.
