An administrative Resolution establishing the

in the Civil Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section
3. J (Professional-Administrative Non-Supervisors Group), by inserting
the title of Epidemiologist in Grade 13; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 32 by inserting, in proper alphabetical order, the
attached class specification for Epidemiologist.

General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible professional work analyzing
the causes of diseases, advising on methods of disease control and com-
municating with the medical community and the general public concerning
disease control.; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the administrative and technical supervision
of the Directar of Medical Services. �
Supervision Exercised: May supervise lower level clerical, teehnical or
professional workers, usually on a project basis.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Develops a disease surveillance system including control methods and
program evaluation.
Maintains contact with community physicians and hospital personnel to
encourage proper reporting of diseases.
Investigates or coordinates investigation of acute disease outbreaks.
Interviews patients, contacts and physicians; takes samples and collects
specimens; reviews medical records and other available information and
consults with other health professionals regarding control measures.
Does research on specific epidemiologic ical diseases.
Assists in the preparation of infor*�,ation to be disseminated regarding disease
control or preventi.on measures.
Prepares reports and summaries on both research projects and program activities
and results.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILIrIES
Thorough knowledge of the epidemiology and control of specified infections
or chronic diseases.
Considerable knowledge of the maintenance of disease surveillance systems,
data analysis and interpretations.
Considerable knowledge of federal, state and departmental public health
functions, regulations, policies, procedures and programs.
