� RESOLVED, that the Civil 5ervice Rules be amended in Section 3.H
(Maintenance Supervisors) by striking out the titl� of Park Foreman from
Grade 36 and by substituting in lieu thereof the title of Park Maintenance
Supervisor; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended by striking from 5ection 32 the class specification for the title
of Park Foreman and substituting in lieu thereof, in proper alphabetical
order, th.e attached class speci.fication for the title of Park Maintenance

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs supervisory work directing the
maintenance of City parks, playgrounds and parkways by laboring crews;
and performs related duties as required.
Supervision. Received: Works under the general technical and administrative
supervision of a maintenance unit head.
Supervision Fxercised: Exercises within a unit general technical and
administrative supervision directly or through subordinate crew leaders
over laboring workers.
TYPICAL DUTIES FERFORMID
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions
in this class.
Plans, assigns, organizes and reviews the daily work of a crew or crews
engaged in the matntenance of City parks, playgrounds and parkways
and in the installation of wire fences.
Coordinates the work activity within the unit including the assignment
of work to drivers, operators of specialized mechanical equipment and
auxiliary laborers.
Conducts training sessions for unit personnel on subjects related to
proper maintenance and safeey practices.
Prepares and submits various reports required in the operation. and super-
vision of the unit.
Evaluates employee performance and safety practices.
Investigates the cause of complaints and corrects or recommends corrective
action.

Considerable knowledge of machines, equipment and materials used in the
maintenance of municipal park property and their safe use.
Thorough knowledge of the divisionTs organization and its proper functions
and responsibilities.

complex and controversial situations.

We recommend your approval and submission of this Resolution to the City Council.
PURPUSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION:
This Resolution will replace the title and class specification for Park
Foreman with the title� and class specification for Park Mai.ntenance
Supervisor. The new title and class specification are in the modern
format but essentially are unchanged. Mi,nimum Qualifications have
been revised to require fort� ye experience in Park and Playground
maintenance ratlier than Pa or ayground experience. There is no
change in rate of pay.

Duties and responsibilities:
Under direction, to be responsible for the maintenance of City
parks, playgrounds and parkways; and to perform related
work as assigned:
Examples of work per�ormed:
To supervise and direct crews of inen engaged in cutting grass,
planting flowers and shrubs, applying fertilizer to grass plots,
or flower gardens, repairing and maintaining buildings, water-
ing grass in dry seasons, grading new park areas or roadways,
and keeping the parks clean.
To supervise and direct crews in the development, preparation,
maintenance, installation and repair of recreation areas,
equipment, apparatus, and buildings.
. To keep order in the parks and on the playgrounds.
To estimate needs of equipment and supplies.
To keep time records of inen.
Minimum qualifications:
� Eighth-grade education and five years' experience in park or
playground maintenance.
