RE: William Reed vs. City of St. Paul
ACTION REQUESTED: Approval of Resolution directing payment to
William Reed and his attorney of $12, 750.00 as full .settle-
ment of his claim for no-fault benefits.
PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION: Plaintiff William Reed is a
t. au po ice o icer w o was operating a St. Paul squa.d car and
in the course of his duties as a police officer on September 29,
1978. He was involved in an accident with an uninsured vehicle
which he was pursuing. As the result of the accident, Mr. Reed
sustained injuries to his ribs, legs and right arm. Mr. Reed's
damages as the result of the accident have been compromised to
$12, 750.00, which is a fair se tlement.
Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 65B.47 the primary security for
payment of basic economic loss benefits is the security overing the
vehicle. Since the City is self-insured for purposes of payment
of economic loss benefits under the No-Fault Statute, payment
to Mr. Reed should be provided out of the Judgment and ComproT
mise Fund.
