RE: William Reed v. City of St. Paul .
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of Resolution
PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION:
To transfer funds to the appropriate account to pay William Reed, a St. Paul
police officer who was injured while operating a squad car in the course
of his duties on September 29, 1978. He was involved in an accident 'with an
uninsured vehicle which he was pursuing. Mr. Reed' s dama.ges as a result of
the .accident ha.ve been compromised to $12,750.00, which is a fair settlement.
,.,.._z. ,-
Pu"rsuaMt, to Minn. Stat. 65B.47 the prima.ry security for paymerit of basic ..
economic loss benefits is the security covering the vehicle. Since the
City is self-insured for purposes of payment of economic loss benefits
under the no-fault statute, payment to Mr. Reed should be provided out of
the Judgment and Compromise Fund. - -
As payment of this sum to Mr. Reed will exhaust budgeted funds in this
account for 1980, additional money will also be meeded for payments out
of this fund for the remainder of the budget year. These payments are
made to employees inju.red at work who are alo covered under the no-fault
insurance statutes.
