i�EREAS, in the course of three decades of elected office and a lifetime
of public service, Hubert Horatio Humphrey dedicated his indomitable
spirit to championing the causes of justice, equal opportunity, and human
welfare in his state, this nation, and the world, and
WHEREAS, as an energetic leader and a brilliant innovator, Hubert H.
Humphrey was the greatest legislator of the 20th Century, and
WHEREAS, his visionary legislative record included such monumental
landmarks as: Medicare, the Peace Corps, the Solar Energy Research Act,
the 1963 Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, to name but a __few, and
WHEREAS, Vice-Presideht Humphrey stood in the frontlines of the War on
Poverty, in the forefront of the struggle for civil and human rights, and
WHEREAS, at the center of these remarkable achievements stood a man with
inexhaustible faith in his country, inconquerable love for people, and
boundless zest for the gift of life, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that in recognition of his illustrious statesmanship, his
leadership in national and world affairs, his distinguished public service
to his state and his nation, and as a mark of respect to one who has held
such eminent public station in life, an anniversary day should commemorate
the life of Hubert Horatio Humphrey, and be it further
RESOLVED, that his birthday, May 27 , be officially established by the
City of St. Paul, as Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Day, and be it finally
RESOLVED, that this resolution be transmitted to Senator Muriel Humphrey,
and Senator Hubert H. Humphrey, III, the Minnesota State Senate, and the
House of Representatives, and the Minnesota Delegation in the U.S . Senate
and U.S. House of Representativ�s.
