RE50LVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 3.L
(Technical Group) by inserting the titles of Fire Commvnications Operator
I and Fire Communications Operator II in Grades 34 and 36 respectively;
and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended
in Section 32 by striking out the class specifications for the titles of Fire
Alarm Dispatcher I and Fire Alarm Dispatcher II and by substituting in lieu
thereof, in proper alphabetical ordcr, the attached class specifications for
the titles of Fire Alarm Dispatcher I/Fire Communications Operator I and
Fire Alarm Dispatcher II/Fire Communications Operator II.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Perfozms and supervises during a shift skilled
communications work receiving and transmitting alarms, dispatching public
safety equipment and assisting in testing communication and alarm systems;
and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general technical and administrative
supervision of the Supervisor of Fire Communications.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises during a shift general technical supervision
over lower level fire communications workers.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
Supervises during a shift and performs the work of receiving and transmitting
alarms over the fire alarm circuits, over the radio and by telephone.
Determines appropriate zones or districts and dispatches public safety equip-
ment in response to requests for assistance or reports of disasters, fires
or in3uries.
Directs the moving up of companies during special alarm fires.
Assists in testing lines and boxes for "opens" and "grounds" and for proper
voltage and rectifier current.
Supervises and performs the work of maintaining records of alarms and tests
and the return of companies to quarters, disposition of alarms and related
records.
� Contacts other 3urisdictions to request additionaZ equipment and personnel.
Routes incoming and outgoing calls,makes connections and dispenses information
to the general public.

The ability to think and speak clearly in stressful situations.
Thorough knowledge of department operations and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of tele-communications equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the location and use of equipment and personnel
required by various emergencies.

Working ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.

The Finance Committee, at its meeting of April 14, 1980,recommended approval
of the following:
1 . Resolution replacing class titles and specs for Fire Preventipn Aide I
and II and Fire Prevention Technician I with titles and specs for Fire
Aide I , Fire Aide II and Fire Techni::ian I , xespectively. - No changes
in grades . (10805-RH) .
2 . Resolution revising class specs fox titles of Fire Prevention Techni-
cian II and III and titles of Fire Prevention Inspector and Fire Invest-
igator. This change wil�l result in two class specs as follows : Fire
Prevention Technician II/Fire Prevention Inspector, and Fire Prevention
Technician III/Fire Investigator. (10807-RH) .
