BLUE - MAYOR Counci Resolution Presented By Referred To Committee: Date Out of Committee By Date WHEREAS, Donald Lewis, the Director of the St. Paul Department of Human Rights, has resigned effective Ma.y 1, 1980, and will be on vacation from April 15, 1980 to May 1, 1980; and WHEREAS, Section 74. 10 of the St. Paul Legislative Code provides that the Director of Human Rights is to be appointed by the Mayor with consent of the Council, from a list of three nominees presented by the St. Paul Human Rights Commission; and WHEREAS , the St. Paul Hu�na.n Rights Commission has not yet presented a list of nominees to the Mayor and has told the Ma.yor in a letter of Ma.rch 12, 1980 that it will be unable to submit its nominees to the Ma.yor prior to Ma.y 1, 1980; and WHEREAS, the St. Paul Human Rights Commission ha.s req�ested tha.t the Mayor appoint an acting Director for the St. Paul Human Rights Department pending the selection of a perma.nent Director pursuant to Section 74. 10 of the Legislative Code (see attached letter) ; therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of St. Paul hereby approves and consents to the appointment by the Mayor of Johannes Huyen, 639 Montcalm Place, Saint Paul, Minnesota, to the position of Acting Director of Huma.n Rights, said appointment to be effective April 15, 1980 and to terminate upon the appointment by the Mayor and ratification by the Council of a permanent Director of Human Rights. At its regular meeting held on Tuesday, March 11 , t980, it became apparent to the Comnission that we will be unable to submit our nominees to you prior to the retirement date of our present Director, � Donald Lewis: After considerable discussion, the Commission approved a motion requesting the Mayor to appoint an Acting Director for the � Human Rights Department after consultation with the present Director to assure a smooth transition.
