Re: Acting Director - Dept. of Human Rights o.c,•_
Dear Mayor Latimer:

Pursuant to Section 74.10 of the St. Paul Legislative Code, the
St. Paul Human Rights Commission has approved a procedure which wi11
enabl the Commission to select and submit_ three qualified nominees
for the position, - Director - Dept. of Numan Rights.
At its regular meeting held on Tuesday, March 11 , t980, it became
apparent to the Comnission that we will be unable to submit our
nominees to you prior to the retirement date of our present Director,
Donald Lewis: After considerable discussion, the Commission approved
a motion requesting the Mayor to appoint an Acting Director for the
Human Rights Department after consultation with the present Director
to assure a smooth transition.
As Mr. Lewis would like to use some of his benefit time in April ,
it is imperative that an Acting Director be appointed by the second
` week of April , 1980.
p Sincerely,
