title and class specification for Community
Education/Recreation Coordinator in the Civil
Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section
3. L (Technical - Gradedj , by inserting the title of,Community Education/
Recreation Coordinator in Grade 32; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 32 by inserting, in proper alphabetical order, the
attached specification for Community Education/Recreation Coordinator.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement oP Duties: Performs highly responsible technical work
involving the planning, organizing and implementing of community rec-
reational, educational, cultural and athletic programs; and performs
related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general technical and administrative
supervision of a unit head.
Supervision Exercised: Fxercises within a unit close technical and adminis-
trative supervision directly over lower level recreational workers and
community education instructors.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties perfonned by all positions in
this class.
Plans, organizes, directs and publicizes a diversified program of recre-
ational, athletic, cultural and community educational activities.
Assists in establishing and coordinates with a community education advisory
council, booster club or other community advisory organization; maintains
liaison with school officials, community groups and agencies, and
recreational staff.
Develops a knowledge of and open communication with the community; implements
and maintains an ongoing community assessment process to determine area
wants, needs and resources.
Attends neighborhood group and agency meetings to develop or explain programs
and pro�ects; plans and directs the raising of local funds.
RecruiCs, instructs and directs community volunteers to act as recreational
leaders or athletic coaches; recruits, hires, supervises and evaluates
instructors for community education classes.
Maintains an accurate account of a11 receipts and expenditures of community
education activities and monitors a community education budget.
Instructs participants in rules and procedures of recreational activities.
Opens, closes and schedules the use of assigned buildings, grounds and
equipment; maintains bu3ldings and equipment in a clean, safe and
functional condition. �
Organizes and directs special activities including field trips, dances,
hayrides, social and youth clubs.
Orders, receives and accounts for recreational, athletic and educational
equipment and supplies. ,
Prepares reports and maintains records of program activities.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the theory and techniques involved in planning
and directing recreational, athletic and community educational programs.
Considerable ability to develop, organize and direct recreational, athletic
and community educational programs and activities.
Working ability to deal tactfully and effectively tvith school officials,
recreation department staff, advisory groups and the general public.
Working ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Working ability to plan and organize the work of subordinates and volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One yearfs experience as a Recreation Leader III or equivalent;
or
Three years' experience as a Recreation Leader II or equivalent plus fifteen
credit hours in courses pertaining to recreation or education;
or
One qear's experience in the field of recreation or education performing the
duties of a community education/recreation coordinator.
