Supervision Received: Works under the technical supervision of a trade supervisor and the administrative supervision of a unit supervisor. Supervision F.�cercised: May exercise immediate technical supervision directly over apprentice and/or unskilled workers. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMID The listed e�camples may not include all duties perforned by aI1 positions in this class. Operates acetylene, electric and arc welding equipment in the repair of mechanical equipment. Welds, brazes, solders and cuts steel, copper and other metals and alloys and does emergency on-site or schedules shop repair and metal work. Preheats metals in preparation for wel.ding, brazing and forging; performs welding in connection with the mounting of snowplows on trucks and tractors. Forges, sharpens and tempers picks, chisels, caulking too�s, diamond points, cutting chisels, mower blades, scarifier teeth and road discs. Repairs and surface-tempers bucket teeth on power digging equipment and repairs broken lamp posts by acetylene or arc welding. Designs, fashions and forges new tools, iron work and metal parts; modifies existing equipment for special purposes. Estimates work needs and draws supplies from stock; requisitions replacement supplies or notifies supervisor. Cleans work areas, tools and equipment. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of effects of heat on various materials. Working knowledge of the tools, materials and procedures used in welding, brazing, soldering and cutting metals. Skill in the placement of restraining devices to position metals being welded or brazed. Skill in the safe use of hand and power tools and equipment used in welding, joining and cutting metals. Skill in repairing, designing or modifying equipment with or without the aid of blueprints. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and rough layouts.
