RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 3.H (Maintenance Supervisors) by striking from Grade 38 the title of Maintenance Foreman--Water Department and by substituting in lieu thereof the title of Supervisor of Water Production Maintenance in Grade 40; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended by striking from Section 32 the class specification for the title of Maintenance Foreman--Water Department and by inserting in lieu thereof, in proper alphabetical order, the attached class specification for the new title of Supervisor of Water Production Maintenance. Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Water Production Engineer. Supervision Exercised: Exercises general supervision over skilled trades workers, semi-skilled and unskilled workers. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMID The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Supervises maintenance employees in the repair, maintenance and modification of buildings, structures and mechanical systems for a11 water production facilities, including installation or replacement of equipment or facil�ties. Plans, schedules and directs the installation, repair, modification and maintenance of pumping equipment, lime recovery equipment, filter equip- ment and all other equipment and systems used for water production purposes. Supervises major modifications to existing plant facilities a.nd the installation or erection of large and/or complex equipment or facilities. Plans, impleaents and directs a preventive maintenance program. for water production buildings and equipment. Coordinates the maintenance of grounds at the Water Treatment Plant with the grounds maintenance unit. Inspects buildings, equipment and facilities to determine the need for repairs and to evaluate the quality of workmanship of staff and contract employees. Enforces employee safety regulations and housekeeping rules. Initiates requests for personnel, supplies and equipment and keeps abreast of new equipment and materials available. Assists in designing, estimating costs and preparing preliminary specifica- tions of new construction and installations. Familiari2es maintenance employees with equipment and safe and efficient work practices. Maintains maintenance, personnel and payroll records and prepares reports of maintenance activities. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Considerable ability to supervise and to set work griorities. Considerable ability to anticipate and resolve maintenance problems. Considerable knowledge of building materials, work methods and materials. Considerable knowledge of materials, work methods and procedures used in installing and repairing mechanical systems and water production equipment. Working ability to read and interpret blueprints. PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION: This Resolution will replace the class title and specification for Maintenance Foreman--Water Department in Grade 38 of Section 3.H (1Viaintenance Supervisors) of the Civil Service Rules with the class title and specification for Supervisor of Water Production Mai.ntenance i.n. Grade 40 of Section 3.H. The new title and class specification.s better describe the current duties and responsibilities of the position, especially in the area of equipment installation and grounds maintenance. The higher grade will compensate for these duties. .Also, this positi.on will receive overtime pay on a straight time basis. T � • ♦ ' ����� • Title of class: MAINTENANCE FOREMAN--WATER DEPARTMENT Duties and responsibilities: Under direction, to supervise employees engaged in the maintenance and repair of the buildings, structures, mechanical, pumping, lime recovery, and filter equipment at the Water Department's treatment, pumping and lime recovery facilities; and to perform related work as assigned. Examples of work performed: To supervise the maintenance and repair of all equipment neGessary for the functioning of the water treatment plant. To supervise the maintenance and repair of all equipment necessary for the functioning of the lime recovery plant. To supervise the maintenance and repair of all equipment necessary for the functioning of pumping stations. To supervise the maintenance and repair of buildings and structure s. To requisition supplies and materials as needed in connection with the above.
