Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of a unit head. Supervision Exercised: Exercises close supervision over clerical and tecfinical employees. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMID The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Supervises and controls the preparation and processing of .library materials orders. Maintains a.nd reports on pex�odicals and standing orders systems. Maintains conmmunications with suppliers; evaluates performance. Maintains communications with library staff concerning orders; resolves problems for the support services agencies. Supervises .clerical staff, schedules and assigns work; conducts performance appraisals. KNOWLEDGES, SRILLS APID ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of publishers, vendors and. other sources of materials. Working knowledge of library principles and practices. Working knowledge of library policies and procedures. Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others. Ability to deal tactfully and eff ectively with the library staff and with materials suppliers. Classifies and catalogs library materials. Participates in originating and maintaining bibliographic records and systems; employs new Cechnology in storage and retrieval of data. These classifications are designed to permit three employees in the starred title of General Library Assistant to continue in positions which they have held over a long period of time and to compensate them at rates comparable to those received by employees holding traditional titles. These classi.fications of Special Library Assistant I and Special Library Assistant II are to be starred as soon as these employees have been appointed, abolishing the classifications except as to present incumbents.
