CITY OF SAINT PAUL - o`a
INTERDEPARTMENTAL MEMORANDUM
October 22, 1980
T0: Peter Hames
FR: Labor Relations - J. Lombardi '
RE: Resolution Adjusting the Salary Ra.nge for Assistant Fire Chief
The attached proposed resolution adjusts the salary range for Assistant Fire
Chief. In the past they have been treated the same as the Deputy Chiefs of
Police. For 1980 both groups were granted a 7% increase minus the cost of
the 1980 Health and Welfare increase.
However, the Deputy Chiefs of Police requested, through the Mayor, that the
City pay the Health and Welfare increase costs for 1980 and the entire 7%
be applied to the salary increase. This is what was negotiated with the two
Professiona.l units as well as the Fire unit.
The Mayor agreed to do this for the Deputy Chiefs of Police and therefore,
their 1980 salary increase was greater than the Assistant Fire Chiefs. In
turn their salary ranges were no longer the same.
This discrepancy was recently called to our attention and therefore we are
proposing the attached resolution. This would equalize the salaries of the
two groups which has been the case in the past.

RE: Resolution for aubmisso to City Council
ACTION REQIIESTED
We recommend yaur approval and submission of this Resolution, to the City Couacil.
PURPQSE AND RATTONAL FOR THIS ACTION:
This resolution adjusts the salary range applicable to the title of Assistant Fire Chief.
The adjustment is approximately an increase of $22. 00 bi-weekly. This increase is
the amount which was deducted fram the 1980 salary increase for this title. It .
represents the additional cost for Health & Welfare Ben.efits in 1980. This additional
cost is now to be paid by the employer and the full 1980 salary increase is to be applied
to the employees salaries. This will be consistent to what has been approved for other
comparable groups within the city.
