DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs highly skilled clerical work of a
complex nature in the administration of workers' compensation cZaims;
handles all routine matters relating to Workers' Compensation reports
and forms; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
an attorney.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a unit, division or department
immediate or close technical or administrative supervision directly
over lower level clerical workers.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Coordinates claims, assembles all pertinent documents, notes problems
and questionable items.
Opens files or directs that they be opened after receipt of report of injury;
sets up follow-up dates for file review regarding receipt of necessary
medical and time loss reports.
Prepares correspondence requesting medical reports from physicians and/or
hospitals; requests further information from employees necessary to
process claims.
Reads medical reports; computes payments and processes routine claims.
Computes the amount of time loss, the weekly compensation rate and any
supplemental benefits for temporarily totally disabled employees and
computes payment for permanent partial disability based on Workers'
Compensation Division schedules.
Prepares pay vouchers for in3ury-related expenses and for weekly benefit
payments.
Prepares claim establishment form and transmits to Data Processing to
place information on every claim.
Maintains all claim records for every in,�ury.
Reports the amount of compensation paid by the city for work-related injuries
in order to obtain reimbursement.
Prepares the semi-annual and annual workers' compensation report for the
Workers' Compensation Division; forwards medical, time loss and payment
reports to the division.
Prepares other forms such as requests for time extension, final payment
