Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of a division supervisor. Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a unit general technical and admin- istrative supervision. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions i.a this class. Assigns weeklq work schedules to subordinates. Administers and evaluates work standards of subordinates. Supervises the operation and maintenance of the water pumping and related equipment. Writes specifications and orders necessary equipment, space, parts or contructual repair work. Reviews the operating records for compZeteness and accuracy. Prepares statistical and narrative drafts for annual reports. Coordinates supply pumping activities with supply division staff. Recommends personnel actions. Performs liaison work with suburban officials of communities purchasing water from the system. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of the supply and demand of City water. Thorough knowledge of types and capacities of water pumping machinery and equipment to insure maximum efficiency in operation. Thorough skill in the technical aspects related to maintenance and operation of the full range of pumping and related equipment and machinery in both supply and distribution of water. Considerable ability to organize work schedules and statistical reports. Considerable ability to eff ectively communicate both orally and in writing. Considerable ability to deal effectively with employees. Thorough ability to anticipate potential problems and make emergency decisions. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS First Class Grade C Engineer`s license (State Law) . PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION: This Resolution chaages the grade of Supervisor of Pumping in Section 3.H (Main.tena.n.ce Supervisors Group) from its present Grade 41 to Grade 43. It also replaces the current class specification in Section 32 with an up-dated class specification. The 1981 bi�-weekly salary ranges for Grades 41 and 43 are shown below: Grade 41 1 st 6 mos. Aft. 6 mos. $1082. 56 $1114. 02 ATTACIIlKENTS: Resolution and copy for City Clerk. . . � ;�`���� � Title of class: SUPERVISOR OF PUMPING Duties and responsibilities: • Under general direction, to have responsible charge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of inechanical equipment in the Water Department; and to perform related work as assigned. Examples of work performed: � To supervise and direct stationary and pumping station engineers, stationary firemen, coal passers, and laborers. To be responsible.for the operation of all pumping stations, pumps, boilers, and steam generating equipment. To supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of indured and forced draft fans, turbine equipment, electric motors, steam and electric pumping engines, pumps, air compresso.rs, coal handling equipment, pulverizers, etc. To keep records and make reports of time, pumping, and coal c onsumption. To analyze and correct performance of boilers, engines, etc. , � to secure maximum operating efficiency. To thoroughly interpret any kind of indicator card and properly � set the valves on any type of engine. Must be familiar with all types of instruments used in power plants such as CO2 recorders, pressure and draft gauges, meters and engine indicators. Minimum qualifications: High school graduation.with at least ten years' experience in the operation. of high pressure boilers, steam turbines, electric and H.
