RESOLVED, that th.e Civil Se rvice Rule s be amended by striking
from Section 32 the class specification for the ti.tle of R.ecreation
Director III, and by substi.tuting in lieu thereof, the attached class
specification for the title of Recreation Director LTI.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible supervisory and adminis-
trative work planning, directing and evaluating �ajor recreational
programs including recreational centers, f ee paid programs, refectory
programs, team sports and league programs; and performs related duties
as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of a
unit head.
Supervision Exercised: F.xercises within the unit general superuisi.on over �
all recreation workers either directly or through subordinate supervisors.
� TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMID
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Plans, directs and reviews City wide and district-wide recrea.tional prograias
conducted through recreational centers.
Organizes and directs all group, team and league activities conducted by
the department.
Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates self-supporting recreational grograms
and ref ec tories. �
Conducts research to determine programs� which should be added, suspended
or revised to meet the recreational needs of the public.
Recruits, interviews, trains, evaluates and disciplines employees; assigns
and reviews duties and responsibilities.
Negotiates contractual agreements for concessions and contractual staff.
Prepares and supervises the preparation of publicity releases to promote
activities and programs.
Represents the division at meetings and on boards and committees.
Assists in preparing the divisional budget.
Prepares reports and recommendations as requested or required.
RNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of current mana.gement and supervisory principles
and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of the theory and techniques related to p7.anning and
directing recreation programs.
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material, rules and regulations of
sports and recrea.tional activities.
Working ability to prepare reports and to evaluate programs.
Considerable ability to recruit, supervise, train and evaluate employees
and volunteers.
Considerable ability to publicize recreational programs through public
speaking engagements and the preparation and distribution of news
releases.
Considerable ability to deal eff ectively with program participants, civic
and private organizations and the general public.
MINL'rI[JM QUALIFICATIONS
College graduation and f ive years' experience in prof essional recreation
work, at least two years of which shall have been as a Recreation
Director II in the city service or equivalent. (No substitution

We recommend your approval and submission of this Resolution to the City Council.
PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION:
This R.esoluti.on revises the class specification for the ti.tle of Recreation
Director III. Minimum qualifications are changed to eliminate a reference
to Parks and Recreation Accoun.tants, and the forma.t is modernized to
provide more detail. The re i s no change in ti.tle or pay.

Duties and responsibilities: '
Under direction, to be in charge of, and be responsible for the
work of one or more of the major sections of the Bureau of
Recreation and the Bureau of Refectories; and to perform
related work as assigned.
Examples of work performed:
To plan, organize, and direct city-wide and district-wide
recreational prograxns and to supervise employees
responsible for the activities at the City's recreation
centers.
To supervise, organize, and direct all group, team, or league
activities under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Parks and
Recreation.
To plan, organize, and direct the departxnent's revenue-producing
programs and to manage the refectories.
To instruct assigned employees as to their duties and to acquaint
them with laws, ordinances and regulations governing their
work.
� To evaluate activities and to make recommendations.
-• To assist in preparing the annual budget.
To negotiate contracts for concessions and employees working
under contract.
To promote and publicize activities and programs.
TQ review requests for supplies and equipment.
To submit reports and recommendations.
Minimum qualifications: .
College graduation and five years' experience in professional
recreation work, at least two years of which shall have been
as a Recreation Director II or equivalent (no substitution for
education); or three years' experience as an Accountant II in
the Department of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings.
