specification for the titl.e of Water Chemist I in
the Civil Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended by striking
from Section 32 the class specification for the title of Water Chemist I,
and by substitutzng in lieu thereof, the attached class specification for
the title of Water Chemist I.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs entry level professional work
involving standard chemical, bacteriological and microbiological tests
of water; and performs related work as assigned.
Supervision Received: Works under the general technical and administrative
supervision of a higher-level professional.
Supervision Exercised: None.
' TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMID
The li,sted examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Makes routine chemical, bacteriological and microbiological analyses of
the municipal water supply.
Makes qualitative and quantitative tests for organic and inorganic constituents
of water.
Assists in water quality research projects as assigned.
Keeps records of tests, analysis and chemicals used in water treatment. �
Prepares stock reagents and standard solutions.
Uses and maintains sterilization equipment.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the limitations of established laboratory analytical
methods.
�dorking knowledge of theories, principles and procedures of bacterialogy
and biochemistry.
Working lrnowledge of microorganisms and their life processes.
Working knowledge of biochemical laboratory methods, techniques and
procedures.
Some skill in determining the nature and source of microorganisms in media.
Working skill in growing and identifying microorganisms such as bacteria
and/or algae under controlled condYtions.
Working skill in the use of laboratory equipment such as microscope and
culturing procedures and isolation.
Some ability to interpret the results of biochemical tests.
Some ability to maintain technical information records about the nature
and extent of the test results.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
College graduation in bacteriology, chemistry, chemical engineering, micro-
biology or biology. Graduates in biology must have a minimum of six
credit hours in microbiology. (I3o substitution for education.)
