The lease agreement between Ramsey County and the city of St. Paul for the development of
the city's recreation center on county property also addresses planning, construction and
maintenance of a joint parking facility that will serve the Battie Creek Recreation Center and
the Battle Creek Regional Park. In accordance with the agreement, the county will reimburse
the city $60,000 toward the construction cost of the parking lot from regional park grant
funds. The county has an approved regional park grant from the Metropolitan Council that
includes this project.
County representatives have participated with the ciry in preparing plans for the parking lot
and are in the process of reviewing the final plan documents. Once the city has entered into
a construction contract, the city can bill Ramsey County up to $60,000 for its share of the
construction cost. Ramsey County will then submit a request for reimbursement to the
Metropolitan Council under the terms of the grant agreement. Insofar as we are
implementing provisions of an approved aqreement, no further action is required by the
Ramsey County Board of Commissioners.
The Ramsey County Parks and Recreation Department has enjoyed the opportunity to work
with the city on this joint recreational complex. We believe the compfeted project will
provide tremendous recreational opportunities for the neighborhood and regionai park users.
Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the county's funding commitment.
