An administrative Resolution amending the Civil
Service Rules concerning sick leave.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 20.D
so that the first paragraph of said Section 20.D shall read as follows:
"An employee who i s off duty because of illne s s, sickne s s
or disability for a period of thirty or more calendar days
may be returned to work only if he/she has submitted to
the appointing officer a signed certificate from an attending
physician attesting to his/her recovery from the illness,
sickness or disability; mental and physical ability to resume
the performance of the duties of his/her position; and the
nature and period of the illnessZ sickness or disability.
Such certificates shall be forwarded to the Personnel Office. " .

ACTION REQUESTED
We recommend your approval and submission of this Resolution to the City Council.
PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION:
This Resolution amends Section 20 D, 1st Paragraph, in the Civil Service Rules.
The purpose is to clarify the circumsta.nces under which an employee must submit
a medical certificate by including "illness" and "disability" in the wording.
