RE: Claim of Murray L. Johnson
Murray L. Johnson is a 52 year old high school social studies
teacher who lived in the Commodore Hotel on February 15, 1978.
He was in his apartment when he heard the first small explosion
and evacuated the building when the second and much larger
explosion occurred. He received a laceration on the top of his
head and was treated as an out-patient at Miller Hospital. He
was forced to place his personal effects in storage and suffered
the loss of groceries and some personal effects. He also
incurred cleaning and laundry expenses of approximately $300
and estima.tes his medical bills in the neighborhood of $200 -
$300. At the time of the explosion he was on medical leave
because of an apparent attack he suffered on February 1, 1978.
He returned for the fall school year in August of 1978 and
suggested that possibly some of this lost time could be attributable
to the explosion.
Mr. Johnson' s claim has been settled for $2,000 and because the
City of Saint Paul' s liability is 10%, our share in that settlement
is $200. The City Attorney' s Office recommends approval of this
settlement.
