An administrative Resolution changing the grade and the

Civil Service Rules.
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 3. L
(Technical Group) by striking from Grade 16 the title of Practical Nurse
and inserting this title in Grade 17; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended
by striking from Section 32 the class specification for the title of Practical
Nurse and substituting in lieu thereof the attached class specification for the
title of Practical Nurse.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs paraprofessional nursing work involv-
ing the examining, testing and treating of clients at a general health
clinic or in a special program including family planning, maternal and
infant care or veneral disease; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Wor'►cs under general supervision of a registered
nurse or public health nurse.
Supervision Exercised: None.

Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; admin-
isters hypodermic injections, other medications a.nd treatments as prescribed.

cultures and smears for gonorrhea and blood samples.
Prepares and applies dressings, packs and other treatments as prescri.bed.
Explains purpose of specimens and treatments and treatment procedures to '
patients.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments, glassware and equipment as required.
Keeps an established inventory of supplies for regular and satellite clinics;
orders supplies; and keeps an inventory as needed.
Keeps clinical charts of inedications and treatments admi.nistered and keeps
other records as required.
KNOWLIDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of the theory and procedures of practical nursing.
Working knowledge of inedical record keeping.

We recommend your approval and submission of this Resolution to the City Council.
PURPOSE AND RATIONALE FOR THIS ACTION:
This resolution changes the grade of Practical Nurse in Sec. 3.L (Technical Group�
from its present Grade 16 to Grade 17. It also replaces the current class specifications.
in Section 32 with an up-dated class specification.
The bi-weekly salary ranges for Grades 16 and 17 are shown below:
