NOTES OF THE PROPERTY CODB ENFORCEMENT MEET'1NG
Tuesday, January 18, 2000
Room 330 Courthouse
Gerry Sirathman, Legislative Hearing Officer
STAFF PRESENT: Pat Fish, Fire Prevention
The meeting was called to order at 132 pm.
550 Wheeler Street North
(Rescheduled to Februa.ry 1, 2000)
380 St. Peter Street
(Appeai Withdrawn)
1280 Ravmond Avenue
Carell Peterson, manager, appeared and stated he is appealing the replacement of the fire doors.
The building was purchased in April, and a lot of money has been invested in it. The cost to
replace the doors is about $700 a door; there are 12 doors. The building is 90 to 100 years old.
As far as Mr. Peterson lrnows, these are original doors. The doors are in excellent condition.
Pat Fish reported the Fire Deparhnent does not have an objection to a variance. This building is
otherwise up to code and in good condition.
Gerry Strathman granted the variance on the nonconfornring doors with the following conditions:
1) when the nonconforming doors need to be replaced, they will be replaced with conforming
fire rated doors, 2) the building must otherwise be in compliance.
668-670-672-674 Fourth 5treet East
William Lindeke, manager, appeazed and stated this is a 100 year old building with 13 units. Six
units have a bathroom outside of the unit or have a stool and a tub but no basin. He is requesting
a variance to allow them to keep the bathrooms the way they are. It would be egregious to
change them. All units are rented.
Pat Fish reported there is considerable work to do on the building. These are not shazed
bathrooms, and the renters have a key to each bathroom. This is not a safety issue, but a health
issue. Ms. Fish requests two conditions: 1) management makes sure the bathrooms aze kept
clean; 2) if the building is rehabilitated, the bathroams should be brougbt up to code.
Cleanliness has not been an issue with these bathrooms, responded Mr. Lindeke. He will have
no problem maintaining and inspecting the bathrooms on their own and making sure they comply
with curtent cleanliness standards.
