certified and approves the action of the City of Saint Paul Board of
Appeals and Review pertaining to the following listed property and as

SUBJECT: Request variance of Section 34. 11 , pertaining to basic faci ities ,
ta'pe m t continued occupancy of two second floor anartments whose te ants
share use of one bathroom facility, because of high cost and lack of
space. Also, request extension of time to complete nlumbing work listed
in city's letter of 10/21/81, because of financial hardship. i

PROCEEDINGS: Mrs. Bolin stated that they had taken out a loan of $ 5 ,000
and had completed all the required work except for the shared bath s ' tua-
tion and the venting of the plumbing fixtures cited by the inspector

Mr. Bolin reported he had xecently : replaced a kitchen sink drain trap , I'
which the inspector had found to be defective , and had run a vent pipe �
into the attic, but had not yet connected it to the vent pipe leading �
through the roof to outside. �

A1ice Bijjani said this answered questions she had about the plumbing j
and was glad to know the open vent in the attic was not the main vent j
for the entire plumbing system of the property. '

Mrs. Bolin explained that the two upstairs apartments which shared one
bathroom were very small units , large enough for only a single occupant,'i
so only two people shared use of the bathroom. j
BOARD ACTION: Mr. Tilton moved that a permanent variance of Section ;
4. 11 e granted to permit occupancy of the two second floor dwelling ;
units witli one shared bathroom facility�, on coadition that no more than
three persons occupy the units , an,d that a two-year time extension be
granted to complete plumbing requirements designated in city' s letter o�
10/21/81. Mr. Knutson seconded. MOTION CARRIED AND SO ORDERED. j
