WHEREnS, The Mississippi Rivex has played a significant role in
the history and development of the City of Saint Paul, and
Wf�RF,AS, The City has initiated substantial effort to preserv�e and
enhance its portion of the Mississippi River Corridor, and
WHEREAS, Development efforts along the Mississippi River will
contribute substantially to the cultural and economic vitality of the City, and.
WHEREAS, The National Scenic and Recreational (Great River Road) ,
Program is vital to the City's plan for Mississippi River development, and ,
WHEREAS, The Great River Road Program has provided over $1.6 mi.11io
to the City for Mississippi River projects, and an additional $5.8 million
is potentially dedicated for future projects, and
WHERF,AS, The administration ha� proposed and the United States Sena e
is considering legislation which w�uld terminate the Great River Roa�d Program
with sevexe irnpacts on the City's development efforts, naw,thexefore, be it ,
RESOLVED, That the City of Saint Paul urges the Minnesota delegatio�
to take the appropriate action to preserve currently authorized and availablei
Great River Road funds as provided by the 1978 Federal Highway Act.
