RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section
3. L (Technical Group), by inserting the title of Medical Records Practitioner
in Grade 16; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amen¢�ed
in Section 32 by inserting, in proper alphabetical order, the attached class
specification for Medical Records Practitioner.

MEDICAL RECORDS PRACTITIONER
DESCRIPTIQN OF tidORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs technical work in maintaining medical
records in the Central Medical Records Unit in the Division of Public
Health; and performs related duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: Works under the immediate supervision of a i-iedical
Records Administrator.
Supervision Exercised: Ma.y exercise technical supervision over clerical
or technical employees assigned to the unit.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by aII positions in
this class.
Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy.
Codes symptoms, diseases, procedures and other therapies according to
recognized classification systems.
Transcribes medical reports.
Compiles various types of administrative and health statistics.
, Abstracts and retrieves health infornation used for evaluating and planning
in health care and health-related programs and research studies. '
Prepares health data input for computer processing, storage and retrievaZ.
Types records, reports, forms, labels, cards and other materials.
� KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES '
Working knowledge of inedical terminology.
A knowledge of legal responsibilities of inedical records.
Working knowledge of inedical records principles, practices, pr.ocedures
and systems.
Working skill in clerical activities with accuracy and speed.
Working skill in typing with accuracy and speed.
Working ability to per£orm medical records clerical functions wittzout more
than normal immediate supervision.
Some ability to communicate effectively with staff and public.
The ability to perform light physical activity such as reaching, bending
and lifting.
MININNM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation and completion of a medical records technician
program and eligibility forlregistration as an accredited Records
Technician.

Some of the cost will be paid from Fa ily Planning Program funds and Medica;�e and
