Flynn �j Assistant City Attorney DATE: August 12, 1982 RE: Claim against the City of Saint Paul by Jeanne Abbott On June 25, 1979, plaintiff Jeanne Abbott was playing softball on Harriet Island. It was the first inning of the game and she was the second or third batter up. She got on base and eventually scored from third. After crossing home plate she continued to run and crashed into the backstop which was about 17 feet away from home plate. In doing so she struck her face on a protruding piece of barb wire. T'his required 7 or 8 stitches to close. In addition, it left a very noticeable scar on her face. Plaintiff claims that the scar has substantially affected her ability to obtain modeling jobs . She will be required to have surgery to conceal the scar somewha.t. Her medical bills to date have been $231.45. The future plastic surgery, including hospitalization, will amount of to approximately $1,950. Therefore the total special damages are $2,145.45. We ha.ve now settled the case for $2,184.00.
