RE: Claim against the City of Saint Paul
by Jeanne Abbott
On June 25, 1979, plaintiff Jeanne Abbott was playing softball
on Harriet Island. It was the first inning of the game and she
was the second or third batter up. She got on base and eventually
scored from third. After crossing home plate she continued to
run and crashed into the backstop which was about 17 feet away
from home plate. In doing so she struck her face on a protruding
piece of barb wire. T'his required 7 or 8 stitches to close.
In addition, it left a very noticeable scar on her face.
Plaintiff claims that the scar has substantially affected her
ability to obtain modeling jobs .
She will be required to have surgery to conceal the scar somewha.t.
Her medical bills to date have been $231.45. The future plastic
surgery, including hospitalization, will amount of to approximately
$1,950. Therefore the total special damages are $2,145.45.
We ha.ve now settled the case for $2,184.00.
