CLAIMS AGAINST CITY OF SAINT PAUL
BY AMERICAN FAMILY INSURANCE GROUP
AND MICHAEL A. 0 'CLAIRE; ERICKSON
CONSTRUCTION, INC. ; and EDWARD P .
LeMAY
On February 13 , 1982 , a Saint Paul Police vehicle driven by
Fred Slemmons was stopped on Edgecombe for a stop sign. Claimant,
Michael O'Claire, was westbound on Montreal and had the right of
way. Officer Slemmons pulled away from the stop sign to prepare
for a left turn and because of the extremely high snow banks could
not see Mr. O'Claire until he was in the intersection. Mr. O'Claire
tried to avoid the collision but was unable to do so and their
vehicles collided. Damages to Mr. O'Claire 's vehicle amounted to
$1,754 .00 . This office approves the settlement of Mr. 0 'Claire 's
claim in the amount of $1, 754 .00 .
Claimant, Erickson Construction, Inc. , requests reimbursement for
extra work performed under contract to the City of Saint Paul ,
Department of Public Works . Due to a surveying error, Erickson
Construction was required to perform extra work. This office
approves the settlement of Erickson Construction's claim in the
amount of $1 ,035.00 .
The Saint Paul Sewer Maintenance Division of the Department of
Public Works informed Edward LeMay that the boulevard cave-in
which was in front of his home was caused by r4r. LeMay 's private
sewer service connection. The Sewer Department told Mr. LeMay
that his service was defective and it was his responsibility to
repair it. Mr. LeMay contracted with a plumbing company to dig
up his sewer, open it and examine it for holes . When this was
done, the contractor and City inspector could find nothing wrong
with the sewer and the hole was refilled. The bill from the
plumbing company for this owrk was $700 .00 . The City of Saint Paul
has settled with Mr. LeMay for $700 .00 . This office approves
the settlement of Mr. LeMay 's claim in the amount of $700 .00 .
