The first phase would include a meandering rivenvaik with strategically located overlooks, the great lawn, a restored pavilion with outdoor terraces, a grand staircase to the river, and dockinQ and ticket facilities for the Minnesota Centennial Showboat and the Padleford Packet Boat Company. To the disappointment of many, a key component of the park desian, the performance stage, was put on hold for a future phase of the project. Tar�et's offer to fully fund the desi�n, development, and construction of the performance sta�e in the midst of a restored Harriet Island Regionai Pazk is a tremendous gift to the community. The staqe �cill be a treasure ne«� asset for the city. It �vill be a ver.ue for professiona! concerts, community bands, and local theater. It will be an impromptu picnic shelter, an environment for summertime tiveddin�s, and an outdoor education platform for school kids Ieaming about the Mississippi.
