00-480Council File # op _ L-j� RESOLUTION CITY 9F SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Presented Referred To Green Sheet # jII��� Committee Date 1 Minnesota Transportation Museum 2 Preservation and Restoration of 3 PCC Streetcar No. 322 4 WT�REAS; the Minnesota Transportation Museum's Como-Harriet Streetcar Line at Lake Harriet in 5 Minneapolis is rededicating former Twin City Rapid Transit Company 1946-built "PCC" streamlined 6 streetcar No. 322 on May 20, 2000; and 7 WIIEREAS; the Museum has preserved Minnesota's streetcar history at the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line 8 since 1971; and 9 WFiEREAS; No. 322 broadens the scope of the Museum's streetcar collection such that it spans the era 10 from the first electric streetcars to the last; and 11 WHEREAS; the Twin City Rapid Transit Company's streetcars served all areas of Saint Paul until 1953; 12 and 13 WIlEREAS; the Twin City Rapid Transit Company's Como-Harriet route connected Saint Paul and 14 Minneapolis, operating from 4"' and Wabasha Streets to Minneapolis via Wabasha and Rice Streets and 15 Como Avenue, serving downtown, the State Capitol, the Fairgrounds, and the Saint Paul Campus of the 16 University of Minnesota; and 17 WHEREAS; the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line was a pioneering example of heritage trolleys and is widely 18 regarded as one of the finest examples of streetcar preservation in the nation; and 1 o� -��o 1 WHEREAS; the City of St. Paul proudly supports the restoration of the Museum's 7ackson Street 2 Roundhouse at Jackson Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, which will become one of the finest railroad 3 museums in the nation. 4 NOW 'THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY "TI-IE CITY COUNCIL OF TF� CITY OF SAINT PAUL 5 that it congratulates the Mimiesota Transportation Museum and its volunteer members for a job well done 6 far preserving Minnesota's transportation history at the Como-Harriet Streetcaz Line and for the 7 preservation and restoration of PCC streetcaz No. 322.
